Accessories: New Luna NFC Bluetooth headsets – out of this world - NokiaVNN

If you were to see this in a  sci-fi/alien movie, it it wouldn’t look that out of place. It’s a very bold design from Nokia’s accessories team. You’ve got this alien like thing coming out of its little spaceship. The headset is appropriately called “Luna” (maybe that Space theme continues with Nokia Sun, huh?) We’ve had a Nokia Luna before – a very stunning phone belonging to Nokia’s luxury 8xxx series. Now to specs:

  • black, white, fuchsia, green, yellow and blue (Like Nokia 112)
  • 5g earpiece.
  • Holder is 18.3g (allows charging via MicroUSB)
  • BT 2.1+EDR
  • NFC for simple tap connection
  • Handset free profile 1.5/Headset profile 1.1 (voice instructions, like Nokia J)
  • Connect with two phones at the same time (like Nokia J, quite brilliant)
  • Up to 8 hours talk time or 60 days standby (when popped in the holder)
  • Q4, 69 EUR Before taxes

Nokia Essence - Bluetooth headset with NFC pairing

As part of its Singapore press event today, Nokia announced the “Essence” Bluetooth stereo headset, to complement its latest release of Symbian Belle smartphones. While the headset will work with any Bluetooth device, the unique selling point is that easy pairing is possible via Near Field Communications (NFC), which Nokia’s 600, 700, 701, C7-00 and N9, are all equipped with. Read on for specifications and more.

The Essence headset comes in the form of two in-ear buds, connected via fixed cable to a small device with audio playback and call controls, which also houses the Bluetooth and NFC transceivers.
Key hardware features
  • Frequency response: 6-20000 Hz

  • Speaker driver: 10.3mm neodymium with integrated ANC microphone

  • “Bass Perfection Active Noise Cancellation” removes up to 99.8% of ambient noise to deliver powerful bass and balanced sound in any environment.

  • Four professionally selected and tuned EQ profiles.

  • Active Noise Cancellation technology ensures voice clarity on phone calls.

  • Dimensions: 58.9x31.6x15.7mm and 32g mass.

  • Rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery, with: 8 hours talk/music time, 240 hours standby time, and 45 minute charging time.

  • Operating range: Up to 10 meters with Bluetooth.

  • Compatible with any Bluetooth 2.1+EDR device. Supports Handsfree 1.5 profile and Headset 1.1 profile.

  • In box contents: Nokia Essence Bluetooth Stereo headset, ear bud covers in six sizes, neck strap, carrying case, Nokia charger, user guide.

The unique selling point of this headset is its NFC pairing. By tapping the headset to an NFC-equipped Nokia device, the Bluetooth pairing will be automatically triggered. Once the pairing is complete, communication between the Essence and mobile device is over the Bluetooth channel. While the Essence will inter-operate with any Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR equipped device, this ‘tap to pair’ part of the functionality is proprietary to Nokia.

The Essence will have an initial RRP of 129 Euros, and will be available in October 2011.

New Wireless Bluetooth Nokia N8 Accessories: BH-111 Bluetooth Headset, MD-310 Wireless Music Receiver, Nokia Play 360

Now, we’ve got some details on a few other accessories – now called gear – from Nokia. The Nokia Bluetooth Stereo Headset BH-111 is a great little stereo headset that brings music and clear calls to people’s ears. Once charged, users can expect to be able to listen to music for up to six hours, seven hours for talk time and a standby time of 120 hours. Available in five different colours and priced at around €39, we can expect to see these shipping during the summer when they’re released globally.

From private music listeners to bringing music to the masses, the Nokia Play 360° is about sharing music with friends or even just enjoying your music without the use of headphones. As the name suggests, rather than the sound being one-directional like most speakers, this offers omnidirectional sound, filling your surroundings in every direction, evenly and completely. You can easily create stereo sound by connecting another speaker – wirelessly – to get an even better music experience. You can connect to the Nokia Play 360° in a number of ways, using NFC for easy Bluetooth pairing or a standard 3.5 mm audio connector. We expect to see this shipping in the third quarter and costing around €149.

The third and final piece of Nokia gear, is the Nokia Wireless Music Receiver MD-310. Much like the Nokia Play 360°, the Nokia Wireless Music Receiver MD-310, wirelessly pumps music from your phone, laptop or any other Bluetooth device through your home stereo. Using something called apt-x, you will still receive the exact same audio quality you’d experience from a wired system, giving perfect CD quality. With support for Bluetooth class 1, you can remain connected to the MD-310 within 100 meters. Pairing is easy too. If you’ve got an NFC enabled phone (like a Nokia N9, say), just tap the phone to the NFC logo and you’re connected via Bluetooth. Otherwise, traditional pairing will work just fine. The MD-310 will cost around €59 and shipping will start during the third quarter of this year.
