Nokia Sabre photos - Leaked - NokiaVNN.com

Nokia World is just around the corner and the leaked photos of the expected WP7 phones just don’t stop to appear. After the leaked photos of the Nokia 800, it’s now Nokia Sabre.

From the photos, it’s visible that Nokia Sabre will feature physical keys, which might be great for the ones that keep hitting accidentally the capacitive keys, and apparently no front face camera.

Nokia 800 – First Press photos leaked #NokiaVNN

One week away from Nokia World, the first press photos of the Nokia 800 have been leaked.

Nokia 800 is the first WP7 phone set to be released and it’s one of the major attractions expected on the Nokia World that will take place in the next week. Rumors point that this phone should hit the market on Mid-November this year.

Nokia 800 Advert: Nokia Sun #windowsphone #SeaRay - NokiaVNN

Been stuck in lectures so wasn’t able to post your tips. Phew. What you’re looking at is apparently the first Nokia 800 Advert. The Nokia 800 might be the Nokia Sun which we’ve seen mentioned before.

This images appear on pocketnow – these guys seem to end up with a lot of Nokia promos before launch for some reason.

http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/nokia-800-first-ads-images

Other things to tick off now is Sabre and Ace. SeaRay is possibly the 800. This has the appearance of SeaRay + the 8MP camera. What’s interesting is that in the image below, there’s a bettery icon on the left. That’s supposed to be on the right. Being a Nokia ad though, they’re often prone to mistakes.

First Nokia Windows Phones by Christmas, + Nokia 800 for Airtel India?

I thought I’d roll these Windows Phone posts into one.

First up. NWP by Christmas

According to Danish site, mobilsiden.dk, Nokia’s first Windows Phone will be available before Christmas. I’m not sure if they’re quoting something new that Stephen Elop has said or possibly something reported time and time before. Yes, first batch is being announced this month, with at least two available this year in certain countries.

Secondly, NWP Nokia 800 airtel ad

The we were sent a scan of a possibly Nokia 800 pamphlet for Airtel, India. The source wants to remain anonymous. This was scanned very quickly apparently. Maybe no cameras allowed there or maybe it’s a photoshop, printed and scanned? I don’t know. I’m a little bit suspicious, particularly as the screenshot used isn’t even Mango. It’s a very old Windows 7 screen. It’s like they took some already available Nokia 800 shots, switched this screenshot, added some text and airtel logo, printed and scanned it in. If not, poor, very poor quality control in regards to the screenshot.

Now as for availability of this, I’m not sure. It is not connected to the “by Christmas” tag as that is for a select countries, of which, at least 6 are in Europe. US may have to wait for 2012 when Nokia Ace or whatever high end NWP appears.

Here are a bunch of videos on the windowsphone youtube account showing new Mango Features.

Something very odd here (and observed in older WP demoes) is that their virtual demoes have lag in them where the real thing does not (unlike say, those old N97 demoes where we got some blinding performance but the real thing was…well

Nokia 703 Windows Phone, Photo and Specs!

Well there it is, the rumored Nokia 703 Windows Phone from a couple days ago. I really like the design of it, at 3.7" it is a slightly smaller version of the Sea Ray/N9.

Here are the specs

  1. 3.7″ LCD 452×800 display

  1. 5Mp Camera

  1. 720p HD video at 30FPS

  1. 8Gb Storage

  1. 512Mb RAM.

This is pretty much what I reported spec wise a two days ago, expect for the camera...The camera only being a 5Mp is a huge disappointment for me. I truly was expecting an 8Mp like on the C7, and 701. While there is nothing mentioned on the processor speed one would have to assume that it is the 1Ghz processor that is in the 701.

So there it is the first Nokia Windows Phone. (maybe) What do you all think?

Nokia 703 = Nokia 701 Running Windows Phone?

So the folks over at wpcentral have found this little nugget of information, that Nokia will be releasing the Nokia 703 as a Windows Phone.....

One would have to assume that the 703 is the just like the 701 but running the Window Phone OS instead of Symbian Belle. The 701 already hits almost all the requirements for running Windows Phone.

Perhaps the one diffrence will be screen size..I can't find it now, but I know I have seen that one of the requirements for a Windows Phone is a 3.7 inch screen and the 701's screen is only 3.5 inches. This also would explain the slight bump up in the number to 703.

Windows Phone "Tango" Key to Nokia's Success?

Microsoft has just recently confirmed what Windows Phone Tango is all about. To sum it up it is about making Windows Phone run on lower spec'd phones to make them for affordable.

Well ok they told us a little more than that...here is what they told us.
1. Tango is not a major update.
2. Tango is one of the update belonging to Mango.
3. Apollo would be the next major update.
4. Tango is mainly for developing countries including China and India. These countries were neglected before and Microsoft would like to provide more Bing Services to them through Tango.
5. OEM would be selling cheaper Tango devices in these developing countries.

So your are thinking.. "Great but this is a Nokia website so tell me Nokia stuff"

Here is the Nokia stuff, Nokia is rumored to be pulling back all Symbian presence in the North American Market next year. This means that Nokia would need to hit every end of the market with Windows Phone in the all important N. America Market. Windows Phone in it's current state would not allow Nokia to make lower end/entry level smart phones...period. (the minimum specs required by Microsoft are way too high)

However, now with Tango coming into play you can reach the low end market that Android is catching fire in, and compete with them for that section of market. As important as this is to the N. America market, it is MORE important in developing countries (ie China, India) for Nokia to keep their robust handset sales growing and not face another huge market loss like it saw in the N. American market in the past couple of years.

By Microsoft tweaking Mango to be less processor intensive it will allow it's handset makers to be competitive on every level in every market. If the consumer can get a Nokia Windows Phone for the same price as "feature phone" the Windows Phone would probably win. There are still people buying 8Gb iPhone 3G's right now just for that reason, it cost the same as a Pantech (fill in the blank) so why not?

If Nokia can figure out how to get a Windows Phone in everyone's price range, than I believe that they will start getting one in everyone's pocket.

Windows Phone Bringing "Symbian-Guru" Back to Nokia?

Does everyone remember the Symbian-Guru? If you don't his name was Ricky Cadden and his website symbian-guru.com was the end all, be all of anything Symbian/Nokia related. Than sadly this post came out and the symbian-guru was done with Nokia. Now he has gotten his hands on a Windows Phone and had this to say....

"When Nokia announced that it was going to partner with Microsoft and start using Windows Phone as the smartphone platform of choice (at least in the U.S.), I was floored, but I also knew that if Nokia was so confident in this platform, then I needed to get a Windows Phone device and start checking it out. I promptly picked up an HTC HD7.."

At first he was not too impressed with Window Phone as an operating system and went as far as to call it a "dumbphone". Than he got his hands on the Windows Phone "Mango" update he found himself using the Windows Phone more and more. ".. I’ve now been running Mango (in one form or another) for a few months, and I find myself coming back to the HD7 quite frequently.."

The reasons he gave for coming back to this device time and time again are pretty simple:

Windows Phone is freakin gorgeous. It’s easily one of the most aesthetically pleasing mobile operating systems out there, rivaling HP’s webOS in beauty. This is interesting because it’s really not very graphical, instead relying on beautiful typefaces and interesting fonts to really make itself stand out. It’s incredible, and it kind of sneaks up on you.

It syncs with nearly everything out of the box, and it does so really well. I really only need four accounts on my mobile device – Google, Exchange (for work), Facebook, and Twitter. Everything else is icing. Windows Phone handles all of these like a champ – especially the Exchange and Google support – it’s top notch, and more importantly, can sync both of them at the same time (Symbian cannot do this – not even in the upcoming Anna release). Repeat after me: I SHOULD NOT NEED TO CONNECT MY SMARTPHONE TO MY COMPUTER IN ORDER TO USE IT.

The Live Tiles are pretty sweet – so the main idea with the live tiles of Windows Phone is that you unlock your screen and can quickly glance at your phone to see all the important details. It even puts your next calendar appointment on the lockscreen, so you may not even need to unlock it. It’s brilliant and really works well – assuming the apps have a ‘live’ tile. Most don’t, and that’s a big problem.

The System-wide speech features are awesome. Speech-to-text, being able to talk to your phone and have it do things, works brilliantly. Text-to-speech, having your phone read stuff to you, is also great. If you get a Mango handset, connect a Bluetooth headset and have someone give you a call or send you an SMS. It’s just plain awesome, and most importantly – easy to use.

He also had a list of short comings for Windows Phones:

Customizations – you can change the ‘wallpaper’, but that’s only the photo that shows on the lockscreen. Your actual phone’s background can only be two colors – white or black. That’s it. You can, thankfully, change the colors of the live tiles and most app icons (depending on how the developer set it up). Unfortunately, you’re stuck with about 8 preset colors, and they’re the most drab versions of those colors that you could possibly have imagined. I was hoping that Mango would bring forth a way to choose *any* color (either via a color wheel or even better, letting me use the phone’s camera to ‘scan’ a color). Unfortunately, that’s not the case. I can ‘hack’ my phone and tweak some registry settings, but it’s surprisingly difficult to unlock your phone to allow this, and the registry *definitely* isn’t the kind of place you should be poking around. Not having custom accent colors is most certainly a missed opportunity in Mango. ( I agree 100% on this BTW Nokia needs to "Symbianfy" this part of Windows Phone)

Twitter notifications – The official Mango release includes Twitter support baked right into the ‘People’ hub (basically the contacts app). Like HTC’s Sense UI Twitter integration, it’s great if you follow less than ~100 people. I follow 500+, and it’s a nightmare to deal with. Plus, it doesn’t notify you of new mentions or direct messages, which means it’s basically useless. The official Twitter app also doesn’t support notifications, nor does it have a live tile (though I’m told by the dev team that they’re working on that). Seesmic has a Windows Phone app, and it also doesn’t support notifications or live tiles. I was able to purchase an app, Rowi, that supports both, but for a phone that has Twitter baked right in to not offer notifications and force the user to pay for an app that does just seems messed up.

Windows Phone Marketplace – it sucked before, and while the search is improved (it now separates out music from apps), it still sucks. Mainly because it doesn’t tell you if you already have an app installed when you’re browsing. So, if you’re perusing the top free apps, they just all say ‘Free’ – none say ‘Installed’ or ‘You’ve Already Got This One’ or anything. With Mango RTM, they’ve fixed this once you click on the app title to see the app’s main page, but that’s still 2 clicks (one to see it, one to back out). It’s also just not fun to browse.

Xbox Live – it’s a start, but none of the games that I bought for my Xbox came with a ‘mobile’ sub-game, and I still can’t really do anything with my avatar on it. Essentially, it’s a gaming-centric messaging service. Yes, you can purchase games for the phone through it, and yes, they have achievements, but as I’ve mentioned before, it would be so epic if I could work on my golf swing on the way to a buddy’s house, where my player on the Xbox would reflect the improvements.

Internet Explorer still kinda sucks. Then again, it’s Internet Explorer, so you kind of expect it to.

But in the end he had this to say:

"The thing is, if I could put Mango on my Nokia N8, I’d probably forget about the G2 and the HD7 within a week. In any case, if you think Windows Phone is a DOA platform with no hope, you’ve obviously not used Mango, and let’s face it, you probably won’t. But you’re missing out. Just remember how lame iOS was on the first iPhone….."

Microsoft "Tell Me" the Future of Nokia Phones?

Microsoft envisions a future where you will talk to your phone and it will talk to you. Not in that "call Jane" way that we are all use to, or even in the Talk to Text way. They mean a real natural conversational dialog. They call it "Natural User Interface" or NUI for short...

What is exactly is NUI you ask?  It is you talking to your phone (and it to you) like your phone was another person. It will listen in on your what's going on in your world, learn from it, and interject to try to help you when necessary. (cool and creepy all at the same time)

Here is a "demo" of NUI aka TellMe in action..

and here is Microsoft's disclaimer on the video:

Microsoft Tellme aspires to deliver interactions that are just as natural and easy as human conversation. We see a future where the service will know you: know your intent, your social and business connections, your likes and dislikes, your privacy preferences, and the things that define the context that’s important to you. The result will be a speech Natural User Interface (NUI) service that helps you accomplish everyday tasks in a more natural and conversational manner. Please note this video depicts a vision and does not make any product-specific commitments.

Got it? This is not real yet. Still want more information on "Tell Me"?  click here.

This is How You Bring a Nokia Feel to Windows Phone

One of the most important steps Nokia can take to keep it's base loyal during the Windows Phone transition, would be to somehow make Nokia Windows Phone well....feel like a Nokia. I've often thought themes were the way to do it but could never really figure out how you would make it work.....

Nokia Android prototype leaks - see what could have been

Lots of people, us included, are still wondering what could have been if Nokia had gone for Android rather than WP7 as their main platform. Well thanks to a leaked prototype today we have the chance to get a glimpse of that alternative universe, where Nokia likes its smartphones full of green droids.

The prototype resembles the recently announced N9 and the Nokia WP7 prototype that we saw yesterday. It is running on a stock version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but judging by the size of those icons its resolution might be higher than WVGA.

АA Nokia prototype running on Android

Now there's always the chance that the images could be fake. Yet they come from the same source that brought us Nokia's first WP7 device back in May, which turned out real yesterday we feel we can trust him on this one too. In the end, we will never know what it could have been, so this leak could be as much a closure as we are going to get.

Nokia's first WP7 device codenamed Sea Ray breaks loose

Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the first Nokia WP7 device. Introduced by no other than the company CEO, Stephen Elop in what he thought was a camera-free environment. Despite his confidentiality plea someone couldn't resist the temptation and shared a few photos and a quick video with us.

We don't know if Stephen Elop is really so naive as to believe that no one will take a shot of one of the most hotly anticipated devices of the year or this is just a clever way to gain some publicity, but it doesn't matter really. What matter is that we got to see first Nokia WP7 handset a few months ahead of its official announcement.

And here it comes - Nokia's first WP7 device codenamed Sea Ray (possibly the W8-00):

Nokia codenamed Sea Ray

As you can see the device is very similar to the recently announced Nokia N9, but has a dedicated hardware camera key, different LED placement and, of course, it is running on Windows Phone 7 with the Mango update.

Nokia See Ray running on Windows Phone 7 Mango

So, there you have it - Nokia has at least one sweet-looking Windows Phone 7 smartphone in the pipeline. We'll have to wait more for the official announcement and see if there will be another device to join it.

Here is a short extract from the original video:
