Official Symbian Belle v111.30.607 for Nokia N8 - Available on NaviFirm - NokiaVNN.com

The Symbian Belle for the Symbian^3 phones can be released soon.

The FW of Symbian Belle was spotted on Navifirm for one variant of Nokia N8. This can indicate that the release of this much expected update might be very close.

Official Symbian Belle update has not yet appeared for any other device except for Nokia N8 on NaviFirm, however it would also be available for Nokia C7, C6-01, E7, E6, X7 and 500.

Nokia servers seem buy like hell and its difficult to access the update over NaviFirm, so we are just putting up the the Download link:
Nokia N8's Official Symbian Belle v111.30.607.rar. (Thanks to Upakul Rox for sharing the link).

The default language of this firmware is not English, so you will need to follow this video to change the language into English.

Symbian Anna Firmware Update v25.007 is now available for all Nokia N8 and S^3 US Variants

Long awaited Symbian Anna update (25.007) for Nokia N8 and other Symbian^3 devices with US variants is now available for all United States customers. To update your device just type *#0000# on your phone and check for the updates, alternatively you can check for the update using Nokia Suite or Nokia Software Updater.

Symbian Anna Service Pack - Software Update Rolling out for Symbian Anna Smart Phones - NokiaVNN

Symbian Anna Service Pack software update is being rolling out for Nokia N8, E7, C7, X7, E6, and C6-01 world wide. The update is around 1 MB in size and is now available via OTA and Nokia Suite. Last week we had a news regarding Symbian Anna firmware version 25.007.

The release notes state that this updates brings performance and stability improvements , lets you scroll smoother through messages, quicker geo-tagging while taking photos and more.

You can update your Anna device over OTA (Over-The-Air) or by using Nokia Ovi Suite. All Symbian^3 and Anna smart phones have UDP (User Data Preservation) support, but still its always wise to backup all of your personal data before updating the device firmware. The Symbian Anna Service Pack update does not change the firmware version on devices, the update over OTA its about 1 MB approx in size.

Notes:

Official change-log has not yet been released so far.

Symbian Anna v25 Update Released - NokiaVNN.com

A new update for Symbian Anna devices has been released.

Nokia have already made an official clarification about this update and it seems that it’s intended only to bugs fixes, so no new features should be expected.

Firmware Updates for Nokia 5800, 5530, X6 NOT cancelled, just delayed.

I had some emails about some updates being cancelled for the Nokia 5800, 5530 and X6. These were the updates Nokia Conversations told us about, providing new maps and new Anna browser amongst the other additions.

Note, the official word from Nokia is that these updates are still coming for those devices, BUT it will be delayed.

In a quite heated post from an angry Nokia customer, a Nokia member of staff, “skyee” replies:

“As my PNs to various users got copied and pasted already above, I can only repeat what I’ve said there. The updates for 5800, 5530 and X6 are NOT cancelled but only delayed.”

I take it this is the message referenced:

we have not cancelled those updates. I have been informed that the Conversations blogpost talking about Symbian 3.2/5.0 updates got edited, but we are still working on getting the update also to 5800, 5530 & Co. – they are only delayed.

As for the flagship Nokia N97, NO that still will not get the update. That’s what you get when you pay the premium, huh? The quicker that suckfest of a phone is forgotten, the better.

Nokia N9 - Spotted on NaviFirm with RM-696

Nokia N9 has been spotted on NaviFirm with RM-696. It seems that Nokia N9 a Linux powered MeeGo Phone, is very near to be released worldwide.

Official Symbian Anna Now Available via NSU, Ovi Suite and OTA - N8, C7, E7, C6-01

Symbian Anna firmware was spotted on NaviFirm yesterday. Today the Symbian Anna updates have been started to roll out for Nokia N8, C7, E7 and C6-01 over (Nokia Software Updater, Ovi Suite) (290MB) and Over the Air (27MB) (Dial *#0000# and Check for OTA updates)

Key features of Symbian Anna include virtual QWERTY keypad in portrait mode, split-screen text input, an updated web browser, stronger security, an updated icon set and improved Maps functionality. Plus the Nokia C7 gains activation of its NFC chip.

The update process will take around 20 minutes, with the exact timing being largely dependent on the speed of your Internet connection. While all your apps and data will be preserved we would still recommended following the prompt to perform a backup before downloading and installing the update.

Change-log: What's New in Symbian Anna?

Improved text input usability through the introduction of a portrait QWERTY keyboard and widespread use of split screen input. Split screen overlays text entry input boxes on existing screen elements and works in both portrait and landscape orientations. For example, in Maps a search can be entered and auto-completed results seen as you enter text. Similarly, in Messaging, when you reply to a message in Conversations view you can see previous messages in the thread. The portrait keyboard also enables Swype in portrait mode, giving you another inputer option.

Updated Web application with a more intuitive user interface and faster performance. This includes a standard location for the address bar at the top of the page (with improved auto-complete, which benefits from the new split screen text entry), visual back button accessible at all times (bottom left), and a redesigned and more responsive 'quick menu access' floating button. Performance of page rendering has been improved, with an updated version of WebKit and improved scrolling and page navigation performance. It also offers better compliance with recent standards. The Web application continues to be based on the Symbian WebKit code base.

New fresh icons, delivered as part of a new theme. The icons are derived from the existing icongraphy, but with rounded edges, giving a more contemporary look and feel.

Draggable homescreen, making moving between homescreens more intuitive. Widgets now load on a as-needed basis, improving performance and reducing the amount of memory used.

Ovi Maps 3.6, which is already available for existing devices (it recently graduated from Beta Labs). The major features in this version are improved search, the ability to share a location via email and SMS (including to non-Nokia phones), public transport overlays to map view, improved social check-in functionality and the ability to download country maps directly to the device over the air.

Updated version of Social application (version 1.3.143), with new icon and improved performance. Previously available as an update via the Sw update application.

Updated Calendar application, which gains a split-screen month/day view.

Updated Photos application, which now opens straight into photo grid, rather than album / folder list view.

Updated Mail application, with better use and layout of UI elements (most notably in email lists), faster rendering and scrolling of HTML emails and improved stability.

Improved enterprise and security in the Microsoft Exchange implementation (Mail for Exchange). Meeting requests are now fully supported and the updates also include the provision of six new security policies, including enablers for the capability to turn encryption on remotely from Exchange device management tools.

Addition of device encryption functionality - the device, mass storage and microSD card memory can be optionally encrypted, with support for hardware accelerated encryption provided by the operating system.

New Intranet application, which makes it easier for corporate users to connect and access their company Intranet, via the use of IPSEC and SSL VPN enablers.

Pre-install of Microsoft Communicator Mobile for corporate IM and presence (currently available via Ovi Store for selected devices).

The latest version of Qt (4.7.3) and Qt Mobility (1.1.2), to improve developer productivity. This includes support for Qt Quick and a significant number of API improvements. Also included are Flash lite 4 and Java Runtime 2.2.

[Nokia C7 only]: The NFC (Near Field Communication) hardware in the Nokia C7 is activated by the update. It allows you tap C7's together to share contacts, photos, video and play games. In addition, NFC-enabled accessories can be paired by tapping and the device can be used to read NFC tags.

[Nokia N8 only]: Under the hood tweaks made to prepare for extra camera features, including a UI tweak, plus continuous auto-focus in video mode and higher frame rates. These will be enabled in a separate application update, officially teased as perhaps coming on Monday.

If 'Theme effects' are turned on, application loading is accompanied by a small circular animation to let the user know that something's happening. Previously loading applications would result in a short pause and a fade to black into the application.

Over 100 under-the-hood optimisations and bug fixes. In general this means you'll notice both smoother and faster operations during usage.

More through the day as more details are noticed and as more devices receive the Anna update. Initial extra observations, beyond the changelog above:

The Quickoffice and Adobe Reader applications are not included in the base Symbian Anna update. However, Symbian Anna does include a full license for both applications. An additional application package is / will be available (via Sw update and Ovi Suite) which includes these applications.

In some cases application icon reassignments (to other folders) get lost and have to be redone.

Note: It may take some time before the new firmware is available for your region.

Official Symbian Anna v22.14 is now Available on NaviFirm

NaviFirm+ is a modded version of the NAVIFIRM tool developed by EPICBIZNUS, I made the additional improvements documented in the Change-Log. Below follows a brief description of the NAVIFIRM tool.

NAVIFIRM is the ultimate all-purpose tool for downloading Nokia firmware images, obtaining lists of product codes, and finding the right product code for your phone. NAVIFIRM downloads all this straight from Nokia's servers so you don't have to wait for people to post data packages and lists of product codes.

NAVIFIRM is useful for just about anyone:
End users: Find product codes to use with NSS/NSU
Journalists: Be the first to know when new firmware hits NSU
Developers: Download ROM images for extracting files
Care Suite/Phoenix/box users: Download ROM images to flash Additional NSU servers can be added by editing Main.cs in the source code.

NOTE: The main developer for this software is EPICBIZNUS, I have made the additional improvements which have been documented in the Change-Log.

Video: Nokia Belgium: Symbian Anna Software Update Coming in Weeks for Symbian^3 - N8, C7, E7, C6-01

The preparation at Nokia Belgium's website shows that Symbian Anna firmware update should be available in coming weeks for Nokia N8, E7, C7 and C6-01. Though they haven't updated the description which states that it would be available in coming months.

Get to know Anna with Symbian, the new software for the Nokia operating system.
The Nokia Nokia E6 and X7 are now equipped with Symbian Anna. Over the coming months, this update will be available for the following smartphones: Nokia N8, C7 Nokia, Nokia and Nokia E7 C6-01. Register now and closely follow their availability.
