Video: N9 Review – Camera, Gallery, Music, Video
In the next video, I do a quick demo/review of the N9′s Camera app, Gallery, Music player and Video player.
[Note: This is not meant to represent camera quality, only the UI]
Although it’s not the 12mp of the N8, I still think it’s very good. I never actually used all 12mp on my N8, instead choosing the 9mp setting. So for me, it’s only 1mp difference. The UI is very nice. Slim, helpful, everything that you need is available quickly, and in my opinion, a very modern approach to a camera. This would have been nice to see in the N8.
The shot to shot time is definitely very quick, as well as the swap from still to video recording. Something that I did not like with the N8 was the long time it took to change and even start up. I like the manual focus option too, again, something else that would have been nice to see in the N8.
For the camera enthusiasts, there are extensive settings, that I think will please you. If not, CameraPro N9 is already out in the Nokia Store (currently in beta and free) so it may fix your issues.
GALLERY
I like the new gallery. It is simple, yet, does a lot. The option to choose what content in shown, via the selection, is something I find handy, especially when trying to showcase Camera samples.
There are only three options, but I think it’s all you need; Share Items, Edit Tags, Delete Items.
Share Items allows you to mark the items you want, then send via Mail, MMS, NFC and Bluetooth, as well as allowing you to upload to some social networks. Edit Tags, obviously, allows you to edit the tags of the image. This is useful when using the “View by tags” option. Delete items allows marking of items, then deletion of the marked items.
MUSIC PLAYER
The music player is nicely designed. The inclusion of swipe to change song, is subtle, yet, still brings that whole “Swipe” experience to apps, not just multitasking.Although there is still no equalizer option, but after having the N8 for a year, I got used to its absence. For those that use the Ovi Music Store, there is a shortcut to get to it, straight from the Music Player.
VIDEO PLAYER
The only criticism I have with the video player, is the swipe away. I wish the animation dragged the whole video and not just cut it. But that aside, very simple to use. Nice and polished UI.

Nokia N9 tests: boot up time, file transfer rate, app loading times and more… #NokiaVNN
Jay Kim/ShootSpeak tipped us of his new post, checking out the performance of the Nokia N9. It ‘s a great read, covering boot up time, file transfer time, App loading times, Camera Speed, Multitasking and Browser Benchmark.

In terms of camera speed, the details there are from the NokConv post, but he confirms it’s very fast. Writing speed via cable is very good, as is via WiFi N (20mb/s, 3.4mb/s). Some apps taking between 4-16 seconds to boot (16 being maps. You can see this in Michael’s video, here.)

this review, I’ll be showing you Nokia Maps, Drive Navigation, Ovi Music and the Nokia Store.
MAPS
Maps takes a bit of time to boot. Don’t worry, your new N9 isn’t laggy already. I think it has a very well designed interface. Like the video says, not sure yet how to add more maps at this stage, but I will endeavour to try and do it.
I’m glad they added two finger rotation is this version, was something I definitely thought needed to be included in the Symbian versions. The load time of searches and the 3D buildings were quite quick (over a WiFi connection) and I didn’t notice too much lag.
The bottom toolbar allows you to choose between the Map, Nearby locations and events, Navigation and Settings.
DRIVE
The Drive part of Maps is a little complicated to initiate at first, but I think it wouldn’t take too long for you to get used to how it works. I used this on Friday night and I found it to be very accurate in finding a decent route and also staying locked on my position (despite travelling through heavy bushland).
OVI MUSIC
The Ovi Music store is a very modern looking app to purchase and listen to music. At first, you are required to select the country you reside in, and this cannot be changed.
Although I’m not quite purchasing music yet, it was a pleasant experience to just scroll through the app. The difficulty I had with finding ways to preview the song would have to be my only criticism for the Music Store.
NOKIA STORE
Finally, the Nokia Store (although labelled with Ovi Store) is very smooth and elegant. It reminds me of the Nokia Store just released to Symbian (or should I say the Symbian store replicates this).
There are quite a few apps already available in the store, and hopefully a lot more to come.
P.S I apologise for stopping half way. A weird clicking noise was coming from my N9 just before it went all laggy.

Video: EmuMaster demo – Emulator for N9
As requested, I’ve put together a little showcase/review of EmuMaster, an emulator for the N9. I haven’t installed anything to it (so it’s not a real review as such), but I like it, as it has multiple platform support; NES, SNES, GBA and PSX.

I got my N9 on Friday and below I have included the unboxing of my device, as well as the first review. I’ve recorded all reviews for now, just waiting until they are uploaded. (Bad side of HD recording is long upload times)
I apologise for sounding like a tool, I was just too overwhelmed with excitement. I also apologise for the crappy video quality. My N8 wasn’t doing its best work. (It wouldn’t auto-focus, and several times the filming just stopped. You may notice it when some clips cut to another)

From what you readers requested, I have some reviews to follow. I’ve decided they will start with a review of the pre-installed apps shipped with the device, in groups of approx. 4. (Number of apps will vary based on depth of app and timings.
The first one has been uploaded. It’s a showcase of Phone, Contacts, Search & Web.
If you want to see something specific, and didn’t get to put it in the other post, drop it in the comments below and hopefully I’ll get a chance to review it.
It may take a while as I have exams for the next few weeks, but I’ll do my best.

N9 Coming to Australia for Sure...US Maybe?

Nokia N9 "all-screen" smartphone available through all Australian operators and major retailers
Sydney, Australia – 1 September 2011. The Nokia N9, which was announced in Australia at the end of June, will be sold through Optus, Telstra, Vodafone and all major retailers[1].
The stunning high-end smartphone, which will be available in October 2011, will come in black, blue and pink with a RRP AUD$799.
Gavin Williams, marketing director, Optus Consumer said, "Optus has had a very strong relationship with Nokia over a number of years and we're excited to continue this with the Nokia N9. Our customers have shown a lot of loyalty to Nokia as a brand and manufacturer of quality products in the past and we expect that to continue with this highly impressive smartphone device."

The Nokia N9 is all about design and simplicity. It features a 3.9-inch AMOLED panel with a ClearBlack display, which makes the dark bits darker and the colours much more vivid.
The casing is made from material commonly used in ice hockey helmets and the paint is bled right through the material so the colour remains even if you scratch it. The material also allows for a superior antenna performance which means better reception, better voice quality, fewer dropped calls and a higher GPS accuracy.
The Nokia N9 "all-screen" design means there is no physical home button. Instead, it has touch and swipe gestures which lets you navigate around the homescreen.
The user interface is designed around the things people typically do the most – use apps, socialise and multitask. There are three homescreens, which are arranged in a carousel. The first homescreen is for accessing your apps; the second for social networking, calling, texting and calendar; and the final screen shows which applications are open. The screen can be pinched or zoomed to show either four or nine open app icons.
The Nokia N9 also comes with an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, wide-angle lens, HD video capture and large lens aperture for greater performance even in lowlight conditions. It is also NFC-enabled, which allows the user to share images and videos between devices by simply touching them together.
Rounding the package is Nokia's free turn-by-turn drive and walk navigation with voice guidance and Nokia Store, which gives you access to the apps you need.

The N9 will be sold via a 3rd party "Hot Gadgets" this would be the 1st thing they have ever sold on Amazon. They are selling the 16GB edition ($500) and the 64GB one ($650) in black, cyan and Magenta.
Do I really trust "Hot Gadgets", in a word no. But I trust Amazon to stand behind their brand name and protect you from rip off vendors.
According to the site they will ship on launch day

Nokia N9 MeeGo Non-Destructive Photo Editor – Edit Like In Photoshop
The very basic of the system called non-destructive photo editing is to give the users the ability to bend time..no, not that too exaggerated description, but rather a very useful photo editing of undo and redo.

Once you’ve edited your taken photos and saved it in your gallery you can still go back to its original state by doing some undo to it. Sounds very clever. And that’s not all because you can still go back to the edited state of your photo by doing some redo. A very simple photo editing feature but very useful.
The editor also features wide selection of options and settings for image tweaking. Like from Red-Eye reduction to re-sizing, so you can probably do some Photoshop basic editing right from your Nokia N9.

Nokia N9 – Multitasking Stress Test, Floating Display and more | Play 360 – Sound Test

Nokia N9 Availability Ahead to the Operators - No N9 for UK, USA n Germany
As you may have heard already, there will be no Nokia N9 going to operators for USA, UK and Germany, the lack of such regional availability was already suspected before (though you may still be able to get them via local online retailers).
Stephen Elop recently told a news regarding the Nokia N9′s availability. There were a couple of replies the last of which said,
“Ultimately, the operator makes all decisions about which products they make available.”

But before you despair, the N9 will still be available officially in 29 countries, not including the online retailers.
